The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at SUNY Downstate Medical Center invites all interested and qualified individuals to apply for the Orthopaedic Surgery Research Coordinator Position.

This is a salaried position with full benefits that will begin on or before July 1, 2021; it will be open to current medical students interested to take a year off between their 3rd and 4th year and/or other candidates who will be medical school graduates at that time. It presents an opportunity to work with multiple surgeons in various orthopaedic subspecialties and to collaborate with a number of other institutions to collect and analyze data, to attend and present your work at regional and national conferences, and to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed PubMed-indexed journals. Previous research coordinators have published multiple PubMed-listed articles and have presented at the annual AAOS meetings as well as other subspecialty meetings during their time as the research coordinator. This position is an excellent way to improve your CV and increase your chance of matching into an orthopaedic surgery residency. To date, we have a 100% track record of research coordinators obtaining residency positions.

Eligibility:

Goals:
- Actively participate in research meetings, journal clubs, and professional society meetings
- Investigate basic science and clinical science aspects of the various orthopaedic subspecialties
- Prepare abstracts, manuscripts, book chapters

Description:
- The research coordinator position typically spans between 1 to 2 years, often determined by the their prior level of experiance and performance while working with us
- The coordinator will work on research projects for the entire orthopaedic surgery department, primarily on a self-directed basis; the coordinator will also help assist ongoing projects of attendings and residents. 
- The research coordinator should demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of research including study design, grant writing, IRB applications/compliance, data collection, data analysis, biostatistics, informed consent, preparation of oral and poster presentations, and manuscript preparation
- The research coordinator will directly oversee medical student participation in research projects and facilitate medical student integration into research with the department.
