Dear All,

It came to my attention that Children’s Hospital New Orleans (CHNOLA) Fellowship Program has never been reviewed in any forum here. Allow me to share my pleasant fellowship year at CHNOLA with you all.

Program Director Dr. Heffernan, Faculty includes Dr. s Accousti, Gonzales, Clement, Gargiulo, King. They are all very friendly, easygoing, available to help always.
Department office coordinator and staff are probably among the most helpful I have worked with before.
The program is very flexible to fellows needs and interest and the structure allows you to complete a huge number of cases in a year many trainees have been impacted due to pandemic in terms of case numbers due to approximately 6-8 weeks pause in elective cases.
Fellowship is ACGME and POSNA accredited. In a typical week, 4 days OR and one day clinic. Fellow gets to pick and choose the surgeries and clinic day. There are rotating residents and they make sure fellow doesn’t get overwhelmed with paperwork, while offering a very supportive and positive working atmosphere. Monday’s all cases for the week are reviewed with didactic discussions, Thursday’s and Friday’s didactic teaching, and Friday rounds also include review of cases done during the week. Every round is an opportunity to learn. M&M is organized by fellow, and Journal club including articles fellow takes part in deciding: both once a month.
Thanks to great number and spectrum of cases, endless possibilities to create research projects with help from the program.
By the end of my fellowship at CHNOLA, logged in 380 cases, completed a research project already presented at Southern Orthopaedic Association and will be submitted as manuscript soon, organized 10 M&M conferences and Journal clubs, have one lecture, one research project presentation and at least 6 additional case presentations during rounds.
During a challenging year which continues to impact us all, CHNOLA Peds Ortho Fellowship Program supported me tremendously and made sure I could achieve my goals. I will be forever grateful to Children’s Hospital New Orleans Pediatric Ortho Fellowship Program.

I have heard that the CHNOLA program has a separate area of specialization and many children can receive medical care through this program.
