I'd like to announce the Emory Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship.

Our fellow will share responsibility for the care of multiply injured patients at Grady Memorial Hospital. The fellow can expect a thorough exposure to the full spectrum of orthopaedic trauma.

The fellow will be expected to participate in resident and medical student education. Opportunities for reasearch are abundant. We have a biomechanics lab with full support. The Orthopaedic Surgery Department has a full-time research director dedicated to Grady, and we have multiple active clinical trials in place.

Those of you applying to other trauma fellowships are certain to find plenty of opportunity to "get your hands dirty." Grady is a place where you can expect to operate. . . plenty. Grady will be good training for work as an orthopaedic traumatologist because that's what you will be when you are here: an orthopaedic traumatologist, one of our team.

Those of you applying to other trauma programs are certain to encouter the full spectrum of personality disorders as you interview. Something about orthopaedic trauma just goes with personality disorder--I guess we've all got some of it. Anyway, here at Grady, we have recognized this tendency, and we continue to strive against it. I would like to think of myself as pleasant enough, and my partners are first-rate gentlemen of high esteem. Our fellow is to be considered our collegue, somebody in the process expanding the scope of his/her already substantial training.

I think we have a great deal to offer somebody who wants to learn orthopaedic trauma at a busy urban trauma center. You could do worse than to spend a year in Atlanta. Not that it matters, but our fellowship position includes full benefits and a salary that is substantially greater than those you will see for other fellowships.
