Position: Sports Medicine Research FellowPositions: 1-2 Years: 1 Location: University of Kentucky, Lexington, KYTime: Approximately June 2023 - June 2024Salary: A monthly stipend is provided. Dr. Stone at the University of Kentucky is seeking a highly motivated 3rd year medical student interested in pursuing a yearlong clinical research fellowship with an emphasis in patient-reported outcomes after knee injury and identifying factors that influence the progression of posttraumatic osteoarthritis. Dr. Stone is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Kentucky. He specializes in conditions of the shoulder, elbow, and knee, with an additional practice focus in cartilage repair and restoration and ortho-biologics. He serves as the director of the Center for Cartilage Repair and Restoration. Applicants should have a personal interest in knee injuries, functional testing, and rehabilitation. The fellow will be working directly with Austin V. Stone, MD, PhD and Caitlin Conley, PhD. The position will also provide the applicant the opportunity to work with residents, fellows, research faculty, and clinical faculty at the University of Kentucky. The research fellow should expect multiple publications and an enhanced competitive resume for Orthopaedic Surgery match. Research fellows have additional access to lectures, Grand Rounds, and cadaveric labs and workshops.  Job Duties:1.       Hands-on experience collecting patient outcome data in both the clinical setting and the operating room2.       Collection of biospecimen data for associated research protocols3.       Submission and management of IRB protocols4.       Assist the research coordinators and research faculty on clinical projects in the department5.       Participate with drafting, editing, or submitting projects including abstracts, manuscripts, multimedia projects, and book chapters. 6.       Assist with coordinating and setting up cadaver labs for residents/fellows. Qualifications:1. A background in musculoskeletal disorders with a desire to pursue a career in orthopaedic surgery2. Previous experience in research3. Very well organized with good computer skills4. Good oral and written communication skills5. Independent and efficient worker6. Strong scholastic performance7. Statistical experience is a bonus but not required.The position will be 12-months beginning approximately June 2023 through June 2024 with a monthly stipend.Lexington is a beautiful city situated in the rolling foothills of the bluegrass region of Kentucky. There are numerous outdoor activities ranging from climbing to caving and kayaking, all within an hour’s drive. Lexington also has a rich cultural environment with a strong arts and music scene.
