scottydogs OSRR Intern Posts: 24 (12/1/01 10:33:51 am) Reply THE GREAT ABYSS...LA-LA LAND...OUT IN THE PASTURE I know this has been touched on briefly in the past, but what do you all make of situations where a school sends you an invitation to interview several weeks after their "first wave" invites went out? Does this mean they think you are "second tier" and will likely rank you as such? Maybe I'm reading too much into this whole thing, but if a program is only sending an invite because someone higher on the list backed-out, I wonder if I stand a chance. This situation has happened only once to me so far and don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I'm ungrateful for the invite. But I do know there are several schools that haven't rejected me or invited me despite the fact that some invites have gone out already, so I guess I am anticipating this might happen at a couple programs. I guess they say that once on the "interview playing field" everyone is equal, and so getting there is the real chore. Who cares how or when it happens, because if you make it to the game, you get to compete. Right?? Does anyone agree, disagree, care, not-care? By the way, GO VIRGINIA TECH!! (sorry Miami fans, but Ken Dorsey is in no way a legitimate Heisman candidate) Later, --Scottydogs. Ortho2002 OSRR Fellow Posts: 99 (12/1/01 11:06:45 am) Reply $0.02 my game plan is this. first, fill up my dates as they come. if i get a first wave invite from two programs for one date, i am going with the program that i am more excited about. if i get an second wave offer from a program that i am REALLY excited about, then i will cancel a first wave interview; otherwise, i am sticking with the first wave offer. however, if i don't have a date conflict (rare) i will definitely go (second wave or the infinite wave). what the hell do you have to lose besides a few hundred dollars? that is minimal at this point in the game. As long as you get the interview...you're fine...it doesn't mean you're any worse a candidate than the first wave...sometimes schools send invites according to geography...from states A, B, C....with scores > 220 for example...if anyone turns them down....they may invite from other states...so you never know. Personally, at this point i'm going to every interview i get invited to...i don't care if it's in afghanistan or if the chairman is bin laden...as long as they got an ortho program...my ass will be there ready to answer any questions.
