Orthopaedic Trauma Service Location: Hospital for Special Surgery; New York, New York Preceptor: Dr. Dean G. Lorich Qualifications: Current medical student or completed M.D. USMLE Scores 220 and above. Sub-internship or other direct experience in Orthopaedic surgery Preliminary General Surgery year is a plus Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills Strong writing, communication, and analytical skills (statistics experience is a plus) Self-starter with the ability to work well independently and as part of a team Flexibility and dedication required English fluency required Duties: Overseeing all research projects from study design to publication Developing and leading new research protocols, including laboratory-based and clinical outcomes research Collaborating with orthopaedic residents, fellows and attendings on research projects Collecting data on research subjects via review of patient charts, imaging, etc. and maintenance of databases Preparing research protocols/applications (IRB, IACUC, HIPAA, etc) Preparing grant proposals Identifying, consenting, and acting as a resource for study participants Assisting with lab work, including cadaver dissections Data analysis and the writing or editing of abstracts and manuscript Creating presentations for orthopaedic conferences Preparation of textbook chapters Overseeing and training the Research Aide Opportunities: Working in an internationally recognized orthopaedic trauma department Co-authorship on articles published in peer-review journals Attending orthopaedic conferences and case presentations Continued development of rigorous research methods and critical reasoning Observing patient evaluations during weekly orthopaedic trauma clinic Observing orthopaedic surgery cases in the OR Unparalleled exposure to cutting-edge clinical and laboratory-based research, patient care, diagnostic imaging, and the inner workings of a high volume orthopaedic practice €ƒ Start date: Immediate This is a full-time salaried position with benefits.
