Hey Orthogate Aficionados, I’m in a bit of a predicament and I’m trying to find my way in the dark. I’m a third year medical student at one of the brand new SE medical programs and am trying to pick away rotations to help my odds at matching. However I have a list of special conditions that make me a unique candidate… 1. Our school mandates us to take the Step 1 at the end of our third year. I will not have scores until late May. I will be taking the Step 2 CK in June. 2. I am in the top 15 of my class, in a class of 40. (We do not have an AOA chapter) 3. I have honors in surgery (3 months with ortho selective) and a mix of near honors and pass. (Our Honors and Near Honors are above 75%tile on shelf) 4. I have research in chemotherapeutics (2 papers), experience in diabetes, and an othro paper that is in the works + lab time in helping other projects. 5. Tons of “soft currency” (i.e. Class officer, ambassador, coordinator, presenter, etc.) My list of programs I want to apply to are limited in the VSAS by my lack of Step 1, so I may need to apply outside VSAS or have my school call each program I want to apply to. Given these factors and granted I destroy the Step 1, anyone have any suggestions of where to apply? I was thinking UF(Gainesville/Jacksonville), Orlando, Tampa, Miami, somewhere in New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia (+DC). Thanks ahead of time for any input you can provide!
Very few places I applied to required step I. Maybe things changed.
