worriedapplicant Unregistered User (10/4/00 10:41:53 am) Reply Interviews when? I am 4th year med student and I recently applied to ortho. I got 90th percentile on Step I, AOA, and I a have several research projects. Many of my friends that applied to other specialties have already began to get interview invitations. I have not heard from any of my places as of yet. When do most ortho applicants start getting invitations for interviews? Should I start worrying now? peaceful Unregistered User (10/4/00 12:42:32 pm) Reply RE: interviews when Many ortho programs have a November 1 deadline and do not evaluate applications until then. They do this in part because they use only 1-3 dates for interviews, usually in Dec or Jan. They don't need to start interviewing early. They also don't want to exclude any quality applicants that happen to apply near the deadline. Most other specialties interview on multiple days, up to 15-20 dates. These specialties use more of a rolling evaluation of applications, more similar to applying to med school, and they begin interviewing before their application deadline. Dear worriedapplicant, As a fellow 4th year student, still new to this process myself, I don't know everything, however I do know 3 things. 1) Ortho is not an early match 2) it's FREAKING OCTOBER, most ortho programs have their deadlines around the end of this month to mid November and 3) while I find this site useful I get sick of seeing the message that goes something like; Yeah I'm AOA with seven publications and 99th percentile on Step 1, do you think I'l match. For Chrissake losen up your sphincter, come out from under your Campbell's and enjoy the last year of your life when your time is essentially your own. orthocb Unregistered User (10/5/00 3:33:30 pm) Reply no doubt i am a second year ortho resident and all i have to say is no doubt! That is the best post i have seen, and you would be an asset to any program stay real guest Unregistered User (10/5/00 4:15:45 pm) Reply no doubt Easy to say from your side of the match. I bet you thought a little differently 2 years ago.
