Earthdawg OSRR Intern Posts: 11 (12/20/01 9:04:36 pm) Reply WVU I don't anything about St. Lukes/Roosevelt, but I spent a month at WVU last year and have nothing but good things to say about the program. The residents are a great group, and they have some awesome attendings. They get a very balanced experience and there was no shortage of operative experience. The only drawback for some is the location - Morgantown WV isn't exactly a cultural mecca, but if you are young and single, there is an unusually large number of young attractive females running around with WVU being in town. If you enjoy the outdoors, there is no greater place to live short of perhaps Colorado. I got to know a couple of last year's interns (all from out of town) and they all were very suprised with how much they enjoyed Morgantown. Also, for an academic hospital, Ruby Memorial is extremely nice - has a very private feel and the ancillary staff are very helpful. The interview day is also THE most laid back experience you will have. Historically - they state up front NO SUITS ALLOWED. Most of the interviewers are in jeans and are very laid back - I found it to be a refreshing break from the rat race. I have also heard great things about WVU and would love to end up there, but my concern is that someone told me they like people who rotate with them. Do they give any serious consideration to those who do not rotate? DIGbones OSRR Intern Posts: 19 (12/21/01 2:39:02 pm) Reply Re: re: St Lukes vs WVU I ran into someone who rotated at WVU and they too had a great experience....basically i was told great teaching, lot of OR experience and town ain't too shabby....as far programs taking rotators, I feel that a lot of prg's prefer that but that should not be a limiting factor in your decision whether you should interview there or not because that probably holds true for most programs. In the end, if someone rotated there, that doesnt mean that they will rank it highly and if you have a great interview then they might rank you highly....so feel your gut and do what it says and leave the chances to the match. Scott Silverstein WVU Staff Posts: 12 (12/21/01 7:55:16 pm) Reply wvu i interview there and we definately take people who dont rotate with us (myself included) you wont find a better group of residents and no place turns out better clinical orthopedists one of last years grads just told me he did an T7 transthoracic corpectomy for tumor and T6-T10 fusion not bad for a guy with no spine fellowship!!
