Chaney3 OSRR Intern Posts: 22 (11/27/01 11:54:25 am) Reply re: I tried to call a couple programs a week ago just to find out dates they interview (NOT to check on status of my application)...a couple of them asked for my name and one secretary told me that "we can't have everyone calling us" and that "I'll be notified soon". I just wanted the dates they interviewed on so I don't schedule others on those days, but she got the wrong message i guess. in any case, I'm not doing that again. I don't think it's necessary...i mean, what status do you think your application would be in? if you haven't heard from them yet...you'll either be rejected or interviewed....what else is there to know? just my thoughts. OrthoStud OSRR Senior Posts: 60 (11/27/01 1:27:52 pm) Reply this process is insane I don't know about you all...but I am sick and tired of checking my email!!...I have to excuse myself every 20 minutes from rounding or whatever the hell it is I'm doing...my attendings are quite annoyed and i could care less ...but this is ridiculous...all programs should just pick a 1 or 2 week period and send out all their freaking invites during that time... tbone OSRR Intern Posts: 21 (11/27/01 1:55:03 pm) Reply E-mail updates on cell phone One way around this problem is to get the text messaging option on your cell phone. I have my phone set up so that every time I get new e-mail, my phone gets a message. That way, I don't have to leave rounds or clinic to check if I have mail. I still have to leave to check the e-mail if there is one, but I don't waste time checking when no messages are waiting. I guess another option is to get wireless web, which allows you to read e-mail right on your phone, although it's expensive to get a phone that can do that (at least in my area). jordan23 OSRR Intern Posts: 7 (11/27/01 5:25:23 pm) Reply Re: Calling programs... you bring up a good question, but I'm wondering if anyone has had success or failure (ie. being rejected) from calling a program. I guess it does show you are still interested. OrthoStud OSRR Senior Posts: 62 (11/27/01 6:26:06 pm) Reply good idea tbone...that's great that you can do that...i am a bit technologically handicapped...i didn't know you could do that, but will look into it. It has been frustrating because i'm doing a sub-I right now and it's pretty damn busy...sometimes (like today) i cannot check my email in the afternoon and find out at night...by which time it is too late to call the program and schedule the interview. it seems things have slowed down as far as invites go. what a nerve-wracking process...good luck folks. somkhitbonedoc OSRR Newbie Posts: 3 (11/28/01 6:18:12 pm) Reply Re: Calling programs... My wife actually called a few programs for me, the ones I was really interested in and one of them actually offered me a invitation to interview. She basically just called to get the dates they were interviewing and Greenville, SC was nice enough to check the file without asking. I haven't had any bad experiences calling the few programs that I did.
