Workload sounded pretty intense, especially in the first two years. 5 residents total with 1 person each year doing research. They rotate at Strong Memorial, Highland Hospital, and Rochester General. All subspecialties were well covered, with Sports as one of their strengths. Although it seemed like a very academic program, alot of the residents I spoke to were going straight into private practice. Rochester is a decent city, with lots to do if you like the outdoors. Interview was with 3 attendings and 1 resident...about 20 mins. each. They ask you on interview day if you interested in the research spot, which has a separate rank number, so you can rank them differently. There are only 4 academic attendings but over 20 local ortho docs who you work with. The program is very laid back after PGY2, with PGY 3, 4, and 5 being home call. No real OR experience until PGY3, however very intensive OR time after that. The residents are great. If you are looking for a community program, AMC works. If you want research and an academic program, it may not be your cup of tea.
