I know It has been said many times and I know it is early but so far all my interviews are in the midwest. Where I am in school. So Far... Univ of Kentucky offer on 10/11 dates Dec 9 or Jan 27 Indiana University offer on 10/12 dates Dec 11 or 16 Case Western offer on 10/18/06 for Jan 6 Cinci Offer on 10/31 for Nov 18th Wisconsin Offer on 11/3/06 for Dec 19th University of Chicago Offer on Nov 6th for Dec 1 or 2 Kalamazoo Offer on Nov 6th (need to call for interview) Reject Wake
I think it is alive and well. Perhaps the reason for the "shotgun approach" is because people apply to programs that aren't either realistic for them or are in regions that they have no "ties" to. I'm sure that is something that comes up when the committees sit down and discuss applicants. I know a few applicants from Texas who were told that they had no business being in a certain region because in the program's experience, no one from Texas ends up in that area.

I believe in the regionalism approach, however I can say I'm from the midwest and have received a few offers from locations outside my region. The irony is that I've not heard from any Chicago schools despite my strong interest in those programs

Well I guess from looking at the list from the rest of you most of my programs have not given interviews to anyone (or at least not to those of you who post on this site).

How important is it to know people in the local that you are matching in? I mean socially have you found it more difficult to be in a city where your not familiar with anyone or have you found it liberating. I am from the east coast and was thinking of trying to match out west, but am somewhat reluctant to put my foot out there because I don't know anyone in that region. Any thoughts.
