Congrats dude! I'm just curious how you ranked CCF and the CCF 6 year frogram when CCF only has a 6 year program.

No man. CCF had 2 5 year spots this year that were approved after the last interview. The numbers were emailed.

undergrad: top 10 public ugrad took 3.5 yrs off, had a career, 401(k) and all that jazz; dropped out of a phd program, etc - "colorful" application ... went to grad school to study algae. medschool: top 10-12 (depending on the year ) program according to USNEWS randomness 1st year is pass/fail 2nd year h/hp/p/f: 40/40/20/0% lots of weirdo extracurricular stuff: international stuff, triathlons, ultimate frisbee, mountain biking and road/trail racing, taught piano lessons in my house, choral stuff, etc. step 1: 218 (i didn't really study; was working a full time job my 1st two years) step 2: 245 applied 67, interviews offered 22, interviews attended 14, ranked 15 (one 6yr prog) ROL : see other thread matched at my #3 choice: UCLA-harbor. i am EXTREMELY THRILLED! i would have been incredibly thrilled with any of my top 5, would have been very happy with nearly anything on my ROL - but i am incredibly happy to get out of the midwest and head to the west coast. SO EXCITED! ....... no more snow! whew. i'm glad for this all to be over!

oh yeah - clinical. honored only psych and peds 3rd year. honored all 3 ortho sub-Is, rotated at two aways, in addition to my home program sub-I.

Alright - so I've never really posted on here but thought now was appropriate... Undergrad - top 20 private school in the South Med - top 50 private school in the South w/ emphasis on clinical experience Step 1: 222 Step 2: 230 (in time for aps) Clinical grades: not really sure - mostly HP, Honors not really assessed at my school. Not AOA Research: nothing formal just a poster presentation of some Ortho work done abroad. Applied 61 programs, offered 12 interviews, went on 11 ROL: 1) Miami 2) Orlando Regional 3) Atlanta Med Center 4) VCU/MCV 5) UF-Jax 6) LSU-NO 7-11) Northern schools (too cold!!!) Matched at VCU/MCV - and very stoked!! Even after ROL was in, kinda thought they should've been higher (kinda ranked on proximity to family). Though I definitely thought MCV has great faculty and kick-ass overall training. I know I'm gonna be a great orthopaedic surgeon with extensive clinical experience. Git-R-Done in the dirty south!!!

Preclinical: P/F Clinical: 5H, 3HP Activities: tons Took a year off for research though nothing published by interview season Step 1: 242 Step 2: 254 (took it before my research year) AOA Applied to 35, offered 25 interviews, went on 13, ranked 16 ROL in the other thread Matched at my #1...NYU/HJD!!!!

Stats: State School Senior AOA Step I/II: 234/256 Did 2 externships Cardiology research w/o pubs Charming personality Bench Press (low 200's) Applied to 49. Offered 19. Went on 13. ROL: 1) Stanford (rotated here) 2) Georgetown 3) George Washington 4) University of Michigan 5) University of Illinois Chicago 6) San Antonio 7) U of Rochester 8 Temple 9) Galveston 10) KU 11) Baylor 12) SLU Matched at UIC!! Very happy about this, the residents seemed laid back and fun. I liked the city. In fact, my rank list is mainly based off the places I felt I wanted to live. To me, all the programs programs seemed like they offered a great education. Granted there were slight differences in style and time allocated to research or whatever, but mainly I could not tell the difference, so I went with location. Good to luck to everyone next year, and my advice is: figure out what is important to you i.e. big name school, heavy research, location, fun atmosphere, tons of operating, academics, etc. and do an externship or two at the places you think have what you want and truly see if that is indeed what you want.

Oh yeah, just wanted to mention that I did not rotate at UIC or go to that school. So it is quite possible to match to places you did not do an audition rotation at.

YEAH BABY!!! Congrats to all who matched! and for those who didn't, don't give up if it's something you really love! My story is def not the norm. DO school in NE. Clinical honors: surgery, medicine, psych, OMM No AOA at my school, 4th yr rotations are all Pass/Fail for some stupid reason so no H for my ortho rotations on my transcript. USMLE Step 1: 221/90 USMLE Step 2: 223/90 COMLEX I/II: 83/88 (forgot the three digits, too many damn numbers!) Research: ER-no pubs, Renal transplant-6 abstracts published (but only submitted one on my ERAS), Ortho-started but unable to complete b/c no funding (my PI moved away). Lots of extracurriculars (most of it fluff). 1 Allopathic rotation, 2 rotations at my home program (put most of my eggs in 1 basket) Only applied to NY and NJ programs - 20 Allo, 3 Osteo (girlfriend and I didn't couples match but applied to same area-she matched St. Luke's anesthesia). 2 Allo interviews and 2 Osteo interviews. Was offered a spot at my home DO program - got along with the residents really well and they really wanted me there, BUT... I also got along extremely well with the residents at the Allo program I rotated and felt like I fit in there a little better. I got great letters during my third year from ortho attendings that the program director and other interviewers knew very well (I got extremely lucky meeting the right people at the right time and impressing them like hell). So, I withdrew from the DO match and ranked only 2 programs. UMDNJ-Newark and NYMC-Brooklyn/Queens. After sleepless nights and many stomach ulcers wondering if I had made the right choice... I MATCHED at NYMC-BQ!!! This is a small up and coming community program with awesome residents who've gotten pretty good fellowships the last few years. Operate early and often without getting killed all the time. Any other DO's match Allo? I heard of one other matching at Mayo. Good luck all! I'm still drunk from celebrating last night. For all the haters out there, don't hate the playa, hate the game!

i was pretty much the exact same. my step I was a 218 and i improved to a 245 on step II --> the jump in score got the most comments; only 1 place even asked me about my low(er) step I score. additionally, especially for you 3rd years, the majority of my interviews talked about everything on my app*but* the ortho stuff. even my ortho research projects (i have one project unpublished and one 1st author case report) were only mentioned a couple of times. we talked more about my algae/ecology and micro research from years ago than we did ortho. also, i'm nowhere near AOA and nobody commented about my grades. it's totally possible to match without a super-high step I score. i'm thrilled with how things turned out for me.

Undergrad: one of the top 30 colleges in nation (private in NE) Medical School: midwest state school on H/HP/P/F system MSI: mostly HP's with 2 H's and 2 p's MSII: all H Clinical: all H's except for HP ob/gyn, anesthesia, Internal medicine Step 1: 252/99 Step 2 CK: 239/97 (taken after interviews so I had no studying motivation and score results after list in ) Research: ENT project with poster and no paper, trivial ortho without anything worthwhile pubs/posters Aways: northwestern, CMC 46 applied, 34 interview invites, went on 13 interviews Interviewed northwestern, loyola, u wisconsin, u michigan, indiana u, wash u st louis, miami, san diego, brown, HSS, CMC, UNC, UT campbell Ranked 14 (including UNC 6th year) Matched at my #1 Michigan. Very psyched although I would have been very happy at any of the above programs. I just felt that michigan offered the best setup for what i was looking for in a residency. Off to go continue celebrating the fact that I'm going to be an orthopod!

this forum has helped me greatly over the last 4 years, so here's my stuff...it still seems surreal. undergrad: small private school in se med school: state school in south pre-clinical: 3.65 gpa clinical: 6 a's, 2 b's (peds, family med) step I: 250 step II: 240 rotations: greenville, ku-kansas city, home program (loved all 3) applied: 39 offered: 17 interviewed: 13 ranked: 13 1. arkansas 2. greenville 3. ku-kansas city 4. missisippi 5. texas a&m 6. birmingham 7-13. the others matched at arkansas!!!!! very excited. for better or worse, LRHogDoc and i will be together another 5 years. honestly, i would have been happy at any program on my list. all of them seemed to have excellent training with great staff and residents. you just have to find what's best for you.

Here is my info: Med School: Far from top 10 AOA (Ranked #1) Step 1: 99 (rather not share my exact score) Step 2: 99 (did not post it for programs) Clinicals: Half Honors/Half HP Research: 2 pubs (1 JSES, 1 non-peer reviewed), 1 biomechanics project Extracurriculars: athlete, etc (everyone in ortho is well-rounded) Applied to 58, Offered 42, Went on 18. Interviewed at: Northwestern, Columbia, NYU, Michigan, Wash U, Harvard, Duke, Pitt, Penn, Loyola, CWRU, CCF, Miami, Hopkins, Brown, Yale, home, and UCLA. Matched at #1. Not including my ROL bc that is an individualized thing so it is useless. But here are my 2 cents on some of the programs. Northwestern: Great location, very good program. Did not rotate there and they made me very aware of that when I interviewed there which turned me off. For you MS III's, this is the place to rotate at if you want to improve your chances (of the 50 interviewed, 42 were rotators) Columbia: Awesome PD, Great Residents, very academic, but I question the op experience. NYU: Great op experience, very large program (which can be +/-) , great location. Michigan: Very balanced, great that there are no fellows, but i question the op experience, location is +/-. Wash U: Great program......to do a fellowship and get tons of research/pubs. Harvard: Great reputation, large size, also great for fellowship. Duke: Great program, very happy residents, strong academics, lots of research available. Pitt: Fu is the man, very approachable, very balanced program. Penn: Great Residents that work hard and play hard, not too fond of philly. Op experience v. good, lots of research available. they push hard for the 6-year track. Loyola: Well-balanced, ok facilities, good trauma. UCLA: lacks op experience Brown: very strong program with good balance. 6 years/Providence is a turn-off. Ok im tired, back to the bar. Didn't take step 2 AOA+ (only offered senior year) Clinical grades – 7/7 honors/A A lot of extracurriculars and significant leadership positions 2 ortho pubs pending. LOR - 2 ortho, 1 OB and 1 cardiology Rotated at NYU-HJD and Penn Applied to 42, 34 offers, attended 16, ranked 13… Ultimately wanted to stay in NE. Rank list in no particular order: NYU-HJD. residents very down to earth, fun loving. Outstanding and well known attendings that let you operate a lot. New PD Dr. Egol, has already started to take an already stellar program and make it even better. Chairman, Dr. Zuckerman, is in line to be the next president of the AAOS. Both he and Dr. Egol go to bat for its residents and aren’t cocky like you would expect for such well known surgeons. You will come out a great surgeon and probably get any fellowship you want, especially with Zuckerman making calls for you. Brown – Mike Ehrlich is the MAN. Awesome program. Providence... ugh. HSS – top tier ortho program along with HJD. very nice, down to earth residents. amazing place to train but a bit stuffy on the attending side. You’ll come out a great surgeon. Amazing housing, a huge plus. Penn. Great program with nice residents who are very smart and seemed very down to earth. Attendings are great teachers and better people. Lackman is a nice guy who goes to bat for his residents. Sucks for their program that their best shoulder guy is leaving for Jeff and the possibility of losing their other great shoulder/elbow guy. Late operative exposure. Miami Jackson - amazing city, nice residents, they operate A LOT. Thought I would have fit in well and enjoyed it a lot. Harvard – Huge program, even bigger names. Down to earth residents, surprising for Harvard. Only downfall seems to be lack of early operative exposure... and the traffic. Vanderbilt – I liked everything about this program – from attendings to residents to facilities. Resident’s presentation was amazing and obviously had a ton of pride in the program. Love Nashville as well. Columbia – Levine is awesome. Cool residents. Highly academic. The pre-interview dinner was sick and a lot of fun. Don’t think its in the same league, however, as HJD and HSS, experience-wise, but that's just my opinion. Rush – Sick facilities, nice residents and amazing faculty who are extremely happy. Mt. Sinai – Good operative exposure, NYC. Not as academic as I would have liked. UCLA. Great program, great city, nice attendings and social residents. They do well there. Question the op experience. Duke – Ranked it just for another place to match. Shady recruiting tactics and second look pressure made me lose interest fast. Chicago – nice place, nice residents, good program. Just didn’t do it for me. Matched at my #1, NYU-HJD, and excited as hell.. Anyone heading there or 3rd yrs interested in the program, PM me.

Is it just me or are a lot of people being very secretive? I guess if the PD saw your step I and saw that you matched @ their program, they could come on orthogate and see your ROL!!?!!???
