This was stated by the residency directors of both Pitt and Yale. However, I can't be sure about the veracity of this information since that would imply a 40% unmatch rate! I'm willing to bet that there are many applicants out there who applied to only 1 or 2 programs (but are actually applying for, say, general surgery or prelim spots). Therefore, once you ar ein the applicant pool, you are competing with the same number of people as last year.... correct?
