OrthoSasquatch OSRR Intern Posts: 6 (12/9/01 11:27:39 am) Reply Importance of your home school I was just curious what everyone's opinions about the role of the reputation of your home school in the application process. I was basically told by two residents at a recent interview that the fact that my home school's Ortho program and attendings are not well known was hurting my application. Basically they made it sound as though, even though I had good letters, since they were from relative unknowns, they were not taken as seriously. Anyone else run into this? OrthoStud OSRR Fellow Posts: 76 (12/9/01 1:05:06 pm) Reply Home school I think the reputation of your home school makes a big difference...it's just like applying to med school man...the people who go to "top" med schools are not the smartest students, but they're the ones who went to Ivy League undergrad schools for the most part...a lot of inbreeding takes place in academics! They like their own and it's very hard for someone who went to an average college to go to one of these places....it doesn't matter what your numbers are. I think the reason 2 people with identical stats (in terms of board scores and AOA selection) get totally different invites is largely because of the reputation of their home school.
