My home program is a solid program that is very average as far as residencies go. I got along really well with the attendings and residents. They want me to stay and I'd be happy there. My big problem is that on the trail, I found the Dream place to be for me. I had a great interview there and got good feedback. I don't want to turn my home program off by letting them know this, but I'd like any help from them in getting into the Dream place (calls, letters, etc.) Any suggestions? I'm assuming that you got letters from people at your program, right? And hopefully they also know you personally and think you're a great guy. Talk to one of your letter writers who is more like a friend, and owes more or at least equal allegiance to you as well as your home program. Then ask that guy to give the chairman of your dream program a call . . . hopefully they know each other. The person whom you talk to should want you to succeed no matter where you go. My background on this is that I did exactly what I'm telling you to do. During my home school interview, I made it a point to talk my best letter writer and also the same person who said "if there's anything I can do for you let me know." He is on the committee and was interviewing other people, yet I still told him that a certain program was my number one choice (it wasn't my home program). He offered to call the chair of my dream program and lo and behold, I got a call from that chair about a week later telling me that they're very interested in me and wanted to know if I'm still interested in them. You never know what will happen so go for it. =) Best of luck. Mike bonedoc2be OSRR Senior Posts: 64 (1/14/02 4:08:52 pm) Reply I think you owe it to yourself to go for it I mean if you dont go for it and end up going somewhere else then you will be wondering "gee what if" type of questions. I think that if your home program is put off by you saying that you also liked somewhere else then there is something wrong. My chairman/advisor tells all of us that want to go into ortho that it is not his job to fill his program with grads of our school, it is his job to get us into places we want to go. If that is at our home school, fine. But he certainly would not be offended if i came up and said, hey I really liked program X. It is not saying you dont liked your own place. Everyone has different tastes and I think most people realize this
