Happy residents and a great place to live if you like heat! University of Florida (Gainesville): Used to be the top of the heap in Florida, but seems like the impression around is that it is slipping. Although, it still has a good name for itself. Orlando Regional: Only two residents per year. You will hear that Chirag Amin guy from First Aid for the Boards talk about it every chance he gets on the medschool.com site even though he quit after three years. Sound like a nice program, but only two per year sounds depressing (especially if one quits!) University of Florida Health Science Center at Jacksonville: Seems like the shadiest of all the programs in Florida. Was on probationary status from the ACGME last year, but now is supposedly fully accredited. Sounds like a red flag to me. Again, only two residents per year. On the other hand Jacksonville is a nice town! That is my two cents. I would love to hear what other people think. I don't remember which, but after requesting information, one of them said that they had already filled both spots for next year and wouldn't be participating in the match for this year. There are dozens of excellent posts about a great many programs that have been discussed and asked about recently. Unfortunately, I don't know of another way of reviewing these posts without going back and manually picking through all previous messages. Anyway, Chirag Amin quit sometime in his fourth year because his passion was business and investing. Unfortunately, the incomplete story tends to tarnish the program's reputation among applicants. I interviewed there, and I assure you, the program is great. Try to dig up old posts about Orlando if you can. They were a tight group, worked well with each other, and were overall very happy. I initially was also concerned about any two person program, but after rotating there and seeing how well it ran, I have no further worries. The team works out the call schedule very well and it is suprisingly well spread out for a only two person program. The hospital system there is great, very resident friendly. The other services get a long well with the ortho guys as well. There is early OR time, in fact, the chief Ciccarelli told me that he did 96 cases his first year in the 3 months of ortho service. That is sweet. Having experienced some time there, I honestly can say nothing bad about the program and anyone with any questions about ortho can ask me and I will give you an honest answer.
