SEEKING: The Rothman Opioid Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization based in southeastern Pennsylvania launched to help combat and ultimately end the Opioid Crisis in America. The Foundation has 3 goals:  (1) To support pain management research aimed at decreasing the need for opioids for acute and chronic pain. (2) To educate patients and prescribers on safe opioid consumption and prescribing habits, respectively. (3) To advocate to our legislators on evidenced-based opioid policies. A full-time Foundation Fellow for 1 year (June 1, 2024 – May 31, 2025), who is passionate and committed to a career in orthopaedics, musculoskeletal medicine, pain management, and/or public health policy. Please note: - Start and end dates can be flexible. - Will be primarily remote but with regular in person coordination. COMPENSATION: Monthly stipend, without benefits. ELIGIBILITY: Must be a U.S. Citizen or a legal resident. Must have completed an undergraduate degree. Preference will be given to medical students or recent medical graduates. RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate and support new and ongoing educational and advocacy projects. Track, coordinate, write, edit, and submit ongoing research. Organize and execute new research trials. Support grant program execution and reporting. Facilitate meetings and events. Co-author multiple manuscripts and present research at meetings. ILYAS Brief Bio: Dr. Ilyas is an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute specializing in hand surgery & orthopaedic trauma surgery, who has long championed innovative pain management strategies to minimize patient opioid consumption and abuse. Prior to presiding over the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute Foundation for Opioid Research & Education, Dr. Ilyas served as the President of the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society. In his role as a member of the leadership of Rothman Orthopaedics, Dr. Ilyas was charged with developing evidenced-based opioid-prescribing strategies for the practice’s providers as well as patient education. In addition, Dr. Ilyas is an award-winning researcher in the area of surgical pain management. Beyond his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Ilyas holds a busy teaching schedule as well serving as a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Fellowship Program Director at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University as well as most recently serving as an Associate Dean at the Drexel University College of Medicine.
