OrthoSasquatch OSRR Newbie Posts: 4 (11/30/01 5:43:08 pm) Reply What happened? So far I've gotten only 3 interviews (two guaranteed from doing away rotations) and only have 10 programs left to hear from. I thought I had a pretty competitive resume (235, AOA, no research). I can't think of anything in my app that might have deterred these programs. Other than a malignant letter (which I think is unlikely), does anyone have any thoughts? I matched last year..but it was stressful because I received bad advice from a couple of people who told me I was oh-so- competitive...I had 239, AOA, 4 research projects but NO publications...I applied to only 27 programs...and most of them were high-powered programs...i only got 5 invites (3 of them at places i had rotated at)...i was lucky enough to match at one of these places...but i had some gray hair by match day. So it is possible to match...don't lose hope...it doesn't sound like you applied to that many programs...but there is still time and your credentials are solid. Express interest in the places that you rotated at. Good luck orthohopeful OSRR Junior Posts: 39 (12/1/01 8:57:17 pm) Reply sasquatch you haven't mentioned it but I would imagine your problem is not applying broadly enough. this process has some random weirdness in it that can only be compensated for with brute force and large checks written to ERAS. apply broadly and the invites will come with numbers like yours. I have identical stats as yours and I have 12 interviews so far. Keep hope. you still have an excellent shot. bonedoc2be OSRR Junior Posts: 39 (12/2/01 1:59:52 pm) Reply I agree with applying broadly I have very similar stats compared to the ones you mentioned, but I recieved 13 invites so far and have not heard from at least 10-15 places. Admittedly almost all of my spots are in the midwest and not on the coasts, but that is where I am from and want to stay. I got shot down at most of the big names I applied to but got surprised at a couple of big name (although I hate the whole big reputation pissing war) places. Good Luck and dont get discouraged, there was a guy in my school last year who interviewed at 2 places and matched, and he had not done a rotation there. I am sure he was @$%&ting his pants come match day though! OrthoSasquatch OSRR Newbie Posts: 5 (12/2/01 8:00:07 pm) Reply Not enough places Yeah, I only applied to 30 programs, all major univeristy programs, no community programs. I knew realistically that I would not get interviews at all or even most of them but would have been happy with 10-12 interviews which seems like a long shot now. Guess I learned my lesson but hopefully I won't have to apply it next year. It is possible to match with a few interviews. Yeah it sucks not having a bunch of options...but if you really want to go to the places you rotated at (and I assume you do since you rotated there)...you have a decent shot of getting into one of them. Your credentials are pretty good. Remember...if you get your top choice...it doesn't matter if you had 26 interviews or 2 interviews. Hang in there sasquatch.
