This number is based on data on U.S. seniors choosing ortho as their only specialty when trying to match. 478 Matched 91 Unmatched 569 Total Applicants yields a 16% unmatch rate for 2001. 12,356 applicants listed one specialty on their rank lists, which represents 85.5% of U.S. seniors.
