Program Description
The UT Health San Antonio Orthopaedic Research Fellowship is a one-year fellowship program for extraordinary medical students. Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in clinical research with the goal of accomplishing multiple authorships in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in orthopaedic basic science if desired. During this year, the fellows will also have the opportunity to observe in the operating room and participate in resident conferences.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should have completed their third year of medical school. We recommend that this one-year fellowship should be completed over the course of an academic year preferably between the third and fourth year of medical school (“from July to July”.) The student must be in excellent academic standing and have an interest in pursuing a career in orthopaedic surgery.
Award and Stipend Benefits
The recipient of this award will receive a $20,000 stipend to cover living expenses for the year. Travel expenses for national meetings will be funded through the department.

- Personal statement to specifically address the following topics (maximum 400 words)
1) Prior research experience
2) Motivation for completing a research fellowship
3) Personal career goals, e.g. where do you see yourself in the future
The application deadline for the research fellowship to start in July 2019 (AY 2019/2020) is December 23, 2018.
