The Spine Research Center in the Spine Division of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery invites college graduates and medical students to apply for 1-year positions as a research fellow beginning June 2023. The research fellowship offers a unique experience in a high volume orthopedic spine research center with a focus on spinal deformity and degenerative diseases of the spine.Fellows gain experience in clinical research under the direction of the NYU spine faculty. He/she will attain familiarity and understanding of the research process from protocol to publication developing a wide range of skills applicable to medical innovation and practice. Research related spine topics include the practical experiences of spine surgical faculty as well as national databases which individual faculty members participate. Fellows are involved with study recruitment, conducting study related visits, and study data management. Expertise is developed in the use of clinical imaging tools, data analysis, manuscript writing and journal submission.Opportunities exist to observe surgical procedures; attend educational conferences (resident didactic education, spine grand rounds, journal club). The fellow can expect to have 2 or more peer reviewed publications by the end of the research year; abstract acceptances at major spine conferences and opportunities to present research at spine conferences. This will undoubtedly bolster and enhance competitiveness for a position in medicine. This is an active and productive research program with numerous presentations at national and international meetings.Special Instructions to Applicants:
