This opening is for a one-year, paid position as the hip arthroscopy research fellow for Dr. Shane Nho at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush for the 2024-2025 academic year. This opportunity affords a unique experience in high volume orthopedic research and offers a full immersion into the field of academic orthopedics. There are three funded research fellow positions for the upcoming year. Please note, we are unable to fund any international applicants at this time.

Strengths of the Position:
-Hip arthroscopy is an emerging field allowing for high volume publication
-Opportunity to work with a world-renowned hip arthroscopy surgeon and the co-director for the prestigious sports medicine fellowship at Rush
-Opportunity to present your research at national and international conferences
-Past fellows have matched at their top choices such as the Mayo Clinic, University of Utah, Wake Forest, among other great programs

Each fellow is responsible for coordinating one of three areas of the research team. While each fellow is responsible for a certain sector, each will participate in clinical outcomes research which compromises the majority of our studies. The roles are explained below.

Clinical Repository
The repository is a large and growing outcomes database that is the basis for the group’s many clinical research projects. It is critical for the fellow to actively maintain this prospectively collected hip arthroscopy surgical repository. This includes adding new patients to repository along with ensuring past patients have proper follow-up. The fellow must also ensure that the IRB for the repository remains active.

Biomechanical and Motion Analysis Studies
The research fellow that heads this section is responsible for coordinating our biomechanical and motion analysis studies. Rush offers both a biomechanics lab and a state-of-the art motion analysis lab that includes a markerless motion capture system. Responsibilities for this fellow include ordering lab specimens, obtaining surgical equipment for studies, conducting the biomechanics studies, collection of motion capture data, and coordination with the lab staff.

Imaging Studies
At Rush we are one of the leaders in 3D modeling for hip preservation surgery. The research fellow who coordinates our imaging studies is responsible for generation of these models through segmentation of advanced imaging and conducting our studies related to 3D modeling.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor‘s degree in health science related field
- Prior experience with research and statistical analysis is preferred, but not required
- Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills
