A Spine Research Fellowship position at Rush University Medical Center with Dr. Kern Singh is available for 2021/2022.Dr. Singh is seeking ambitious 3rd/4th year medical students who are interested in a year-long clinical research fellowship.

Position Title: Clinical Research Coordinator
Positions: 2
Duration: 1 year
Where: Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Center, Spine Service. Chicago, IL.
When: Beginning Approx. June-July 2021
Salary: A monthly stipend is providedUnder the direction of Dr. Kern Singh
Attending Spine Surgeon
Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center

Duties of the research coordinators will include:
- Coordination of all research projects
- Statistical analysis of data
- Understanding and learning cost-analyses
- Submission of protocols to the Institutional Review Board (IRB)
- Drafting and assisting in the writing/editing of spine surgery book chapters and textbooks
- Managing a team of research assistants 

Specific Prerequisites and Characteristics of the coordinators should include:
- Strong motivation to pursue a career in orthopaedic surgery
- Proven interest in research
- MUST be extremely organized
- MUST be detail oriented
- MUST be able to self manage
- Familiarity with SPSS, STATA, or other statistics software
- Must be ethical with strong moral character
- Strong academic record 

Benefits of the position:
- The fellow should expect to have 10-20 publications by the end of the research year
- The fellow should expect 40+ abstract acceptances at major spine society conferences
- Fellows will have the opportunity to be 1st author on all papers that he/she significantly contributes to
- The ability to collaborate with spine surgery fellows, orthopaedic residents, and other spine attendings
- Opportunities to observe surgical procedures (project permitting)
- Ample opportunities to attend Orthopaedic Grand Rounds, Spine Conferences, Journal Clubs, and Cadaver Labs
- Opportunities to present research at Orthopaedic/Spine Conferences This will undoubtedly bolster and enhance competitiveness for a position in an orthopaedic surgery residencyAdditionally, Dr. Singh is on the residency selection committee and can offer insight into the application process, letters of recommendation and strengthening the applicant’s candidacy.
