The Department of Sports Medicine at Inova Orthopaedics (Fairfax, VA) invites medical students to apply for a one-year clinical research position starting in Summer 2019. We are seeking students who are interested in pursuing a career in Orthopaedic Surgery.

This is a yearlong, full-time position that will allow a self-motivated individual to be involved in clinical and basic science research in sports medicine. The applicant will be responsible for the development and coordination of research projects, and can expect to be immersed in all aspects of the research process, including IRB proposals, data collection, and preparation of manuscripts and presentations. The fellow is also expected to maintain the online database of prospective patient reported outcomes.

Research fellows will have the opportunity to gain clinical experience. He or she can expect to spend time weekly in both the outpatient clinic and the operating room. Furthermore, the fellow may attend weekly didactics that are attended by orthopaedic residents from Georgetown University and Walter Reed. Although not required, fellows can further interact with residents by taking orthopaedic trauma call at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

This is an ideal position for medical students interested in strengthening their application for pursuing a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. Preference will be given to medical students who have completed their third or fourth year. As a full-time employee at Inova Health System, fellows will be compensated biweekly with benefits.
