Program Information
Staff/Faculty/Chairman: This was in a state of flux when I rotated there. The program seems to have a constant flow of attendings who come and go. The interim chair was awesome - I dont know if she is still chair, but she was great to work with. Faculty was pretty good to work with.
Didactics/Teaching: Not as good as other places I saw but fracture conference every morning was good. Tons of pimping of the early residents by older residents and a few of the older guys got a bit harsh.
Operating Experience: None your 1st year, some your 2nd year, although a decent amount of double scrubbing was seen. They go to a community hospital for most of their 3rd year and get a ton of cases then.
Clinic Experience: Average - Onc clinic can be long and painful, esp. post-call. The sports guys were fun to work with, and their fellows were all great teachers in clinic.
Research Opportunities: tons of it. seems like a good research place.
Residents: lots of them, so there are different groups of residents that hang out together. i liked the majority of the residents, but there were a few that were jerks to some of the students and some of the other residents. most of these were the 4/5's though, so they should be getting out of there (I rotated in 2006).
Lifestyle: gets easier as you get older in the program - 1st year stinks and its better after that.
Location/Housing: columbus was a nice city. the prices of housing seemed reasonable and i felt safe everywhere.
Overall Rotation Experience/Conclusion: i had a fun month in columbus. rotating on sports was a great time and if i go that route, ill be sure to come back and check out the fellowship. however, i didnt like the flux of faculty and the politics that were going on. the very hierarchical setup was a turn-off too. they have some great guys/gals in the program, but the few older jerks i interacted with the last 2 weeks of the rotation turned me off.
Qualification
I rotated as a medical student at this program
Date of Rotation: August 2006
