Program Information Staff/Faculty/Chairman: New Program director Dr. Davis. Great guy, cares a lot about his residents.Didactics/Teaching: All residents meet on Weds nights regardless of what rotation they are on for didactics/ farcture conference/ case reports...Operating Experience: Number 1 DO program that I went to in terms of operative expereince. I watched an intern act as primary surgeon on a CTR. PGY2's and 3's are learning to do total joints as primary surgeons as well.Clinic Experience: Much of this program is spent rotating with attendings through major hospitals (Northwestern, Christ Trauma, ect...) A lot of your learning depends upon who you are working with/ what rotation you are on. Residents get a lot of one on one time with attendings.Residents: Seem to get along well. They get together for didactics/conferences every Weds.Lifestyle: Is rotation dependent. Great on some rotations and free time is limited while on others. (ie. Trauma)Location/Housing: There are few DO programs that can compete with living in Chicago. The majority of the program is spent rotating through major hospitals in chicago and most residents lived in the city.Overall Rotation Experience/Conclusion: I rotated here as an MS4 on an away rotation. This program is truely a diamond in the rough. The residents had great early operative experience and surgical skill. Also, all 5 years are spent in Chicago (you dont have to travel to another state for a rotation ie. hand, peds, trauma..) The residents had tremendous knowledge and experience. Plus, they get to live in Chicago. This program is very competative. There was 8 other students gunning for a spot while I was rotating. Not to mention, the base students from CCOM. Hope this helps. Qualification
I rotated as a medical student at this program
Date of Rotation: 9/20/08
