The Site

ORCID is posted at http://www.orthogate.org/orcid in the USA and at http://anaheim.isost.org/orcid in Belgium.

It consists of:

  • an index of conditions that have been sent to the site
  • a table of contents for each condition. Typically this will consist of
    • o Case reports posted on the site
    • o “Best” report on the Internet
    • o Comments about the case
    • o Bibliography. This contains links to other Internet sites on the subject and to MedLine abstracts.

Conditions have been collected from the editor’s and colleagues’ own practice and from cases sent to the orthopaedic mailing lists or posted on the Internet.

Comments sent to ORCID about the cases are reviewed by the editor and added to the site as appropriate. Direct posting of comments does not occur.

What is Rare?

Broadly speaking these are conditions which you will only see once in a lifetime of practice, unless you take special steps to attract such cases. The site was started after a case of re-fracture in a man with known Vanishing Bone Disease (Gorham/Stout Syndrome). Interesting conditions such as Osteogenesis Imperfecta occur in the practice of most orthopaedic surgeons and so are not considered rare enough for inclusion.
