The Center for Joint Preservation and Reconstruction at Lenox Hill Hospital invites all interested and qualified individuals to apply for an orthopaedic research fellowship position with Jose A. Rodriguez, MD. This is a 1- or 2- year salaried position that will begin on August 1, 2010 and is open to all candidates who will be medical school graduates by that time, with a preference towards those who have completed a residency program.  It presents a unique opportunity to work with renowned faculty in the field of hip and knee reconstructive surgery, to assist with FDA trials of new devices, to gather and analyze data, to assist in study design, to attend and present work at regional and national conferences, and to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.  The current fellow has published multiple articles and presented at the annual National (AAOS, AAHKS) and International (ISTA, EFORT) meetings during the fellowship. This is an excellent way to improve your chance of matching with an orthopaedic residency/ fellowship program in the US.

 

ORTHOPAEDIC RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

Lenox Hill Hospital - Center for Joint Preservation and Replacement

 

GOALS:

    * Investigate basic science and clinical aspects of hip and knee joint arthroplasty and preservation.

    * Prepare manuscripts, textbook chapters, posters and educational videos.

    * Participate in research meetings, seminars, journal clubs, symposia, and professional society meetings.

    *  Coordinate all research and educational activities for the Adult Reconstruction Service

 

PREREQUISITE EDUCATIONAL LEVEL OR CREDENTIALS:

  • Medical graduates, residents, and physicians interested in conducting basic science and clinical research in the field of orthopaedics.
 

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM (may include research projects, conferences and meetings):

  • The term of research fellowship will be minimum 1 year, with a preference towards a 2 year committment. The fellow will work on research projects, primarily on a self-directed basis, with an emphasis on total joint reconstruction.
  • The fellow will demonstrate proficiency in the varied aspects of basic and clinical research including study design, IRB compliance, informed consent, patient recruitment in ongoing studies, data collection, data analysis, statistics, electronic and oral presentation, and manuscript preparation.
  • The fellow will be responsible for a minimum of one study to be completed for presentation at a local, regional, national or international research or professional society meeting and/or submission for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
 

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION:

  • The fellows will work under the direction of Jose A. Rodriguez, M.D., Director, Center for Joint Preservation and Replacement.
