The University Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation is offering a one-year fellowship in orthopaedic research. The fellowship runs from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010. The
fellow would manage 6-9 clinical research projects under the mentorship
of the orthopaedic faculty at the University of Cincinnati. The
fellow would be expected to submit and present abstracts at annual
meetings (travel expenses would be covered), and prepare manuscripts
for peer-reviewed publication. A competitive stipend and benefits are available to support the fellow throughout the fellowship year.
There
would be no clinical responsibilities, but the fellow is encouraged to
attend conferences and Grand Rounds in the Department of Orthopaedic
Surgery. The fellow would be allowed to participate in projects in all
divisions of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Activities would
include research planning and design, data collection and analysis, and
manuscript preparation. For the self-directed, motivated individual,
this can be a very productive year. In
addition to improving your research skills in an academic environment,
the goal of the program is to have the fellow, with full-time research
experience and strong letters of recommendation, successfully match
into an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency position.
The deadline
for applications is March 16, 2009. We encourage you to apply earlier
than this date. If you do match into an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency,
it is understood that you will no longer be interested in this
position. However, in the event that you do not match, you may contact
us immediately to notify us of your interest in this opportunity. This
position is also available to highly qualified medical students who
wish to pursue a year of clinical research between their 3rd and 4th years of medical school.
To
apply, fax or email your CV and a brief statement of interest to:
Shelley Hampton, Research Coordinator, University Orthopaedic Research
and Education Foundation, fax 513-558-2220 or email Shelley.hampton@uc.edu.
We wish you success in this year's match!
Sincerely,
Toan Le, MD
