The Adult Reconstrucive Orthopaedic Fellowship, began in 1994 at Lenox
Hill Hospital, is an ACGME-accredited orthoapedic surgery adult
reconstructive fellowship.
The program's position begins on August 1
and ends on July 31.
Candidate requriements include five years of
residency training in orthoapedic surgery, with a demonstrated facility
in orthopaedic surgery as attested to by required documentation from
the candidate's orthopaedic residency program director. During the
one-year intensive experience, the fellow is exposed to various aspects
of diagnosis, treatment, and management of hip and knee disorders. The
fellow sees new patients, follow-up patients, and during rounds,
postoperative patients.
Responsibility in the operating room is
progressive, depending upon the fellow's medical knowledge and surgical
skills. The fellow works closely with the four faculty members (Drs.
Jose Rodriguez, Michael Alexiades, Vijay Rasquinha, and Amar Ranawat).
Throughout the program, the ACGME's six competencies are emphasized,
and the fellow is evaluated using specific criteria relating to each
competenncy. The fellow participates in all aspects of research, and
must present their research project at the Annual Orthopaedic Alumni
Day in the second week of May.
Fellows are evaluated every six months
by members of the faculty, who utilize specific criteria, such as
surgical skills and patient care, basic fund of medical knowledge,
practice-based learning and improvement, professionalism, and
interpersonal skills to rate each fellow.
Lenox Hill Hospital, NY, is
the sole training site for this program. The fellow also attends
outside conferences, including Current Concepts, AAHKS, and the AAOS,
for which they are encouraged to present their research.
