I have pulled a couple of late nighters getting the patient education section restored and have migrated over the cases from OrthoNet to the new Orthogate server. I will not be relaunching OrthoNet because frankly there just is not enough interest or support from residents and faculty at the University of Toronto to justify its maintenance.
Here is a road map for additional features/projects that are in the plans:
WAP/PDA Support - I am just finishing up the module that will allow a PDA/WAP compatible version of Orthogate to be published.
Blogs - Myles Clough, Randale Sechrest, myself and several other
individuals will have a new blog section on Orthogate. The purpose of
these articles will be to provide commentary or viewpoints on various
aspects of orthopaedics and the Internet. We might also start
experimenting with some podcasts on various orthopaedic topics. If you
are interested in having a section setup for yourself please send us a
message indicating your interest and subject.
Newsfeeds - Directory of useful newsfeeds that you can put into your
news readers/aggregators to keep up to date on various orthopaedic
topics. I am also going to publish a tutorial on using news readers
such as Google Reader or Bloglines to stay updated on orthopaedic literature.
Workshops - Myles Clough and myself are planning on launching various
workshop tutorials on searching the Internet, using Pubmed, practice
websites, image manipulation. If you are interested in putting together
a module for a specific topic please send us a message outlining the
proposed topic.
Presentations - A repository for presentations created by residents/fellows during their training.
OrthoAnswers - An orthopaedic specific question/answer tool like
Google Answers. OrthoAnswers will provide evidence-based information
and links to
trusted sources to help you better understand musculoskeletal problems.
OrthoPaedia - An online collaborative hypermedia resource based on the MediaWiki software.
If you have some orthopedic news that you would like to share with the
Orthogate community, please register/login and submit your news, events,
jobs, articles, viewpoints or reviews from the Submit Content link in your Members Area.
If you run into any problems please send me a message.
Best regards
Christian
