Receiving Email

Outlook Express is set up so that it automatically opens a connection to the Internet Service Provider (ISP) to receive mail when you open the program. Thereafter it will receive mail at intervals which you can set from the Tools/Options menu. If you have been working off line and want to recieve mail you should click on the Send and Receive Icon.

When receiving mail initially, the program will normally open the Inbox folder and display its contents. As messages arrive they are added to the list of messages seen in Inbox. You will see a message line that shows the sender, title of the message and the time is was sent. If you already have another folder open when new messages arrive they will be added to the Inbox without disturbing you except for a discreet tone that tells you you have new mail.

Messages which have not been read appear in bold type. The paperclip icon at the left indicates an attached file.
