A systematic approach to the interpretation of these studies will be provided and the participant will learn how to incorporate the ability to read MRI examinations of the musculoskeletal system into his or her practice.

Target Audience

Orthopaedic surgeons, spine surgeons, sports medicine specialists, radiologists, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, primary care physicians, family practitioners, rheumatologists and pain management specialists

Objectives

Following this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Define and recognize the normal MRI anatomy of the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee, as well as cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine
  • Recognize the most commonly seen pathologic findings in the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee, as well as the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine
  • Distinguish the MRI appearance of benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors
  • Differentiate determinate from indeterminate soft tissue tumors
  • Discuss and avoid the common pitfalls in MR imaging of the musculoskeletal system
  • Utilize a systematic approach to evaluate MR imaging studies of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, wrist and hand, as well as the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
