Surgical options for CMC thumb arthritis - 2008/01/26 21:36 Hello, my name is Peter and this is my first post.

I just received a diagnosis from my doc ( hand surgeon ) that the severity of arthritus in my left thumb requires surgery and a CMC Arthoplasty LRTI is the procedure he suggested. ... remove small bone and fill the space with a tendon wrapped into a ball taken from my wrist

As a guitarist for almost 50 years I am very concerned about two things ..First, will I be able to regain joint mobility, strength, and fine motor skills to achieve my prior skill level as a guitarist playing at an advanced level ... Second, the four month plus recovery / rehab time is troubling.

I would appreciate any advice or experience sharing related to my concerns. Also, I discovered there is another surgical fix that does not disturb the tendons but uses a spherical ball impant .... and recovery "return to normal " is only 3-5 weeks .. much more attractive than the other procedure.

Thanks for reading this and I look forward to any and all responses,
Peter
