Program Information
Staff/Faculty/Chairman: Trained by very skilled and worldwide known physicians.
Joints- Paul Drouillard (well known nationally for LCS Rotating Platform TKA), George Haidukewych (well published, extremely brilliant, best teacher)
Sports- Joe Walkiewicz, Mark Milia (excellent teacher, team physician for Detroit Lions)
Pediatrics- Dan Morrison (over 25yrs of experience), Andrew King (spine king), Steven Heinrich (pediatric tumor and trauma specialist), Bill Accousti
Foot & Ankle- Arthur Manoli (great teacher, well published)
Tumor- Enneking Tumor Course, Steven Heinrich
Hand- Hand Associates in Detroit with Ed Burke (one of the largest hand groups in the country, well known for the dorsal distraction plate)
Truama- 6 months at Tampa General at one of the busiest and most popular trauma fellowships with Roy Sanders, George Haidukewych, Dolfi Herscovice, Anthony Infante, Tommy Dipasquale, Claudi Sagi
Didactics/Teaching: Excellent Didactics..New Revised Program.
Monday: X-ray conference for the past week..review xray from diagnosis to treatment options with literature support
Tueday: Lectures
Wednesday: Journal Review
Thursday: OITE Review with AAOS Questions
Friday: Presentations, Topic Discussions
Operating Experience: Excellent hands on. Senior years consists of operating 5 days a week...average logs over 1,000 cases per year.
Clinic Experience: Excellent opportunity available while rotations at GCH.
Research Opportunities: 3 months at Henry Ford Hospital at the Bone and Joint Research Center. Many opportunities to puplish a paper.
Residents: Very intelligent, hard working, excellent orthopedic etiquette, competitive. One of the key aspects of this program is that all the residents are not only collegues but also very good friends. They function extremely well together.
Lifestyle: PGY 2 and 5 years are very challenging and demanding but a great learning experience. PGY 3 and 4 years are appropriate for some hands on experience, lots of reading time, research, and fellowship search.
Location/Housing: Hospital is in suburb of Detroit. Residents live in nice surrounding suburbs...Royal Oak, Livonia, Canton.
Overall Rotation Experience/Conclusion: 10/10. Seniors residents function as attendings....take attending call, make all decision while on call regarding what surgery and implant to use. This program extremely prepares you private practice.
